Seminarium ACMiN: Terahertz excitations of two dimensional electron gas

Wykład zatytułowany „Terahertz excitations of two dimensional electron gas” wygłosi prof. dr hab. Jerzy Łusakowski (Wydział Fizyki, Uniwersytet Warszawski).

Electromagnetic radiation of terahertz ftreequencies has attract a considereble attention of researchers and engineers of many branches of science and technics. There are many reason for the "THz fashion". In communication, these frequencies constitute an obvious enlargement of currently used telecom bands. In medicine, they offer a non-ionizing way of imaging and new diagonostic tools. In agriculture, one can use THz waves to determin the water content in plants. One could also name imaging and security application and – last but no least – basic science research in moleculs, liquids and solids. In the first part of my presentation, I will discribe specific features of THz which lead to so diverse applications and describe the basic techniques of THz science and technology. In the second part, I will concentrate on THz excitations of solids with a particular stress on interaction of THz radiation with a two-dimensional electron gas in semiconductor quantum wells.
