ScienceDirect AI – A new tool based on generative artificial intelligence

The AGH University Main Library has purchased a subscription to ScienceDirect AI for 2026. ScienceDirect AI is a tool that supports the search and analysis of scientific literature with the help of artificial intelligence. It is integrated with the ScienceDirect platform, one of the world's largest databases of peer-reviewed scientific publications in various fields of knowledge. ScienceDirect AI searches for information in the full texts of articles and book chapters available in the database.

ScienceDirect AI features:

  • Natural language search. Users can ask questions in natural language. The tool processes the query and finds answers in the full texts of publications, providing richer context and more detailed information than traditional search engines.
  • Reading assistant. When you are working with an article or book chapter, an interactive assistant appears next to the text. It allows you to ask additional questions, quickly summarise passages, and highlight and save key conclusions (YouTube guide).
  • Research comparison. ScienceDirect AI can extract the most important data from various publications and compile it into a clear table.
  • Full transparency and verifiability. Each response generated by ScienceDirect AI includes citations and direct links to sources. The tool indicates the exact text fragment on which the response is based, which facilitates verification.

The ScienceDirect AI tool received the 2025 CODIE Award for ‘Best generative AI solution’ for supporting researchers in working more effectively with peer-reviewed content and providing reliable, reference insights.

To use the tool, simply go to ScienceDirect and select the ScienceDirect AI tab at the top of the screen.
