Safety at AGH University

Our community is open and welcoming, however, it is also important to know how to respond if unexpected situations arise.
We encourage all students to take a moment to read the campus safety guidelines, which provide clear steps on how to act in case of an emergency or potential threat.
Being prepared helps us all look out for one another and ensures that our campus remains a safe place to live, study, and grow.

Direct life or health threat*

Are you witnessing a situation that poses a threat to life or health?

What to do?

  • Call 112, provide the operator with the most important information (what happened and where, has anyone been affected), answer the operator’s questions.
  • Warn others nearby.
  • Ensure your own safety.
  • Help people in need.

How to act?

  • Do not try to act like a hero, and do not put your own life and health at risk.
  • Stay calm. Leave the area without panicking and go hide somewhere safe.
  • In case of an assault or any other form of violence on another person, call others for help and take action together, for example by making noise.
  • If the perpetrator uses a weapon (cold weapons or firearms) or any other dangerous object, do not come near them nor provoke them. Abide by the principle ‘run, hide, and if all else fails – fight’.
  • Do not engage nor negotiate with the perpetrator. Act fast, covertly and quietly, not to attract their attention.
  • If you cannot apply the above rules, hide, separate yourself from the threat, for example by locking the door or barricading in the most inaccessible place.
  • If you cannot escape nor hide, and the situation requires you to fight, use the objects around you (such as fire extinguisher, hydrant, room or office equipment).

Potentially threatening situation**

Have you observed any abnormal behaviours or events?
Have you noticed any dangerous objects on other people?
Have you witnessed any other potentially life or health-threatening situation?

What to do?

  • Notify:
    - AGH University Security Services in the nearest building
    - staff teaching classes
    - building administrators.
  • Write an email to: bezpieczenstwo.osob(at)agh.edu.pl, inform about the time and place of the event, describe it in short.

How to act?

  • Take caution and be responsible when evaluating your surroundings and taking action.
  • Prioritise prevention and anticipation of events over the elimination of undesirable consequences.
  • Refrain from panicking, being suspicious, or reacting inadequately.

More information

*Direct threat is a real, specific, and sudden danger to the human life and health. The results of the perpetrator’s actions are inevitable without external intervention.

**Potential threat is when there is a possibility of a danger occurring, but it is neither direct nor inevitable.
