We are rooting for Dr Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski – the second Pole in space and the first to board the International Space Station (ISS). As a symbolic gesture of our support and recognition of his remarkable achievement, the main building of the AGH University of Krakow has been illuminated in blue. This gesture is part of a nationwide initiative, with many other landmarks across Poland also lit in blue to express our shared pride and joy in this historic moment.
The Axiom4 mission launched on 25 June 2025 and reached the International Space Station after a 27-hour flight. Over the next two weeks, the astronauts will conduct intensive research in microgravity conditions in low Earth orbit (LEO).
One of the 13 experiments carried out as part of the first Polish technological and scientific mission, IGNIS, led by Dr Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, is MXene in LEO (MXene Material and Wearable Device Experiments in Low-Earth Orbit Space Habitat). It involves testing of an innovative wristband made of the nanomaterial MXene. The project has been developed by a team of researchers from the Faculty of Space Technologies.
