Professor Lidia Ogiela from the Faculty of Computer Science is the first Polish researcher named an N2Women Star in Computer Networking and Communications, a recognition awarded by leading international scientific organisations.
The AGH University scholar has been recognised for her significant input in the development of methods for classifying image patterns using cognitive artificial intelligence techniques, biologically inspired methods, and computer perception algorithms used in computer networks.
The N2Women Stars in Computer Networking and Communications list highlights outstanding women in science who are leaders in their fields. Of particular importance are achievements in the areas of computer networks, information technology, and telecommunications. The list is decided on by leading American scientific entities: ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and NSF (U.S. National Science Foundation).
Professor Lidia Ogiela is a computer scientist, mathematician, and specialist in management studies. She defended her doctoral thesis in Computer Science in 2005, while in 2016, she earned a PhD in Computer Science and Telecommunications at Hosei University in Tokyo, Japan. In 2022, she was awarded the title of professor. Professionally, she has been associated with AGH University, where she works at the Faculty of Computer Science.
For more than 26 years, she has conducted studies on computer networks and telecommunications. Her interests include computer perception algorithms, artificial intelligence, visual pattern analysis, cybersecurity, transformational computing, cognitive informatics, cryptography, and biometric systems, visual authorisation codes, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data processing, and large language models (LLM).
Her pioneering work on new classes of cognitive information systems for semantic data analysis and visual pattern interpretation has earned her an outstanding international reputation. She is an author of more than 290 research papers published in prestigious journals and conference materials, as well as six monographs on the use of cognitive techniques in the analysis and understanding of visual data.
Prof. Ogiela has been an active member of the international academic community. She has been a member of scientific and organising committees for over a hundred conferences worldwide, as well as a participant in over 150 conferences, congresses and workshops. She has received numerous awards and honorary memberships in prestigious scientific societies, such as SPIE (Lifetime Fellow) and the IEEE (Senior Member). She is also a member of ACM, SIAM, OSA, Cognitive Science Society and the Information Processing Society of Japan.
She has been a member of the World’s TOP 2% Scientist since 2019 and of AD Scientific Index Rankings since 2021 (gold medal). She also received six Best Paper Awards and Best Presentation Awards at international conferences in Japan, Canada, Australia, and Italy. In addition, she won 16 individual AGH University Rector’s Awards for her scientific accomplishments.
During her career, she has carried out twelve national and international research projects. She has also completed sixteen internships and research fellowships at renowned research centres around the world, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Italy.
