On 24 February 2026, the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science hosted another Hands-On Particle Physics International Masterclass.
Students of Krakow secondary schools had the opportunity to analyse real data from proton-proton collisions in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in search of W boson production. Some managed to observe cases with two W+W- particles, which could have originated from the decay of the Higgs boson.
The masterclass ended with a videoconference with researchers based at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which also included students from Madrid, Tbilisi, and Braga. It featured a presentation of the combined measurement of all groups and the participants could ask questions about the work of a researcher.
The event was organised by a team of students, doctoral students, and staff of the Department of Particle Interactions and Detection Techniques at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, AGH University.
