Polish Mining Group enters into cooperation with AGH University

On 19 February 2026, the AGH University of Krakow and the Polish Mining Group entered into cooperation on joint solutions for the use of mining infrastructure for energy production or storage.

The signing of this document marks a step towards the exploration of ideas for the redevelopment of future post-mining sites and making the best possible use of their potential in a variety of economic roles that create new jobs. The cooperation is not about the liquidation of mines, but their repurposing with energy needs in mind.

Łukasz Deja, President of the Board of the Polish Mining Group, expressed his gratitude for the invitation to cooperate and the start of joint work in a good direction.

“Since 1 January 2026, under the amended Polish mining law, we have been acting as the operator responsible for the transformation of mining operations. We are engaged in an ongoing dialogue with mining communities and other stakeholders. I view the collaboration that begins today as another opportunity to develop solutions for today’s mines. I hope that we will be able to compile a list of ideas that can form the basis for concrete actions in the future.”

As emphasised by the AGH University Vice-Rector for Cooperation:

“I am grateful for the trust of the Polish Mining Group. We are delighted to have the opportunity to participate in the important and challenging process of transforming mining operations, particularly in the field of energy storage. We hope that the expertise and experience of our staff will be useful in achieving energy transformation goals, a vital part of it being the Polish Mining Group.”

The signed document appoints cooperation coordinators whose tasks will include monitoring the actions taken, devising new initiatives, and supporting those involved in the project.
