One of the winners of this year's Student-Inventor competition was Piotr Pantak, MSc Eng., who, under the supervision of AGH University Associate Professor Aneta Zima and Dr Eng. Joanna Czechowska, is pursuing a doctorate in the Bioceramics Team at the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics. The jury appreciated two solutions related to a method for obtaining bone-replacement biomaterial in the form of hybrid granules and a method for obtaining hydroxyapatite-based hybrid granules, on which the laureate is working with his team.
The award-winning inventions concern methods for obtaining potential implant materials that accelerate the regeneration of damaged bone tissue with simultaneous antibacterial effects. We have described them recently in one of popular science articles on our website.
In his research, Piotr Pańtak is occupied with developing, obtaining, and characterising hybrid properties of bone-replacing materials based on calcium phosphorates and natural polymers, both in the form of bone cements and granules as well as 3D-printed scaffoldings.
This is the 14th edition of the Student-Inventor Competition organised by Kielce University of Technology with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The competition is addressed to students, doctoral students and graduates who, during their studies, became inventors or co-creators of an invention or a utility or industrial design. The aim of the competition is to activate the academic community in research and development activities, promote and support the results of research and development works protected by exclusive rights or submitted for protection in the commercialisation process, and increase students’ interest in seeking innovative solutions for their own business.
All winning solutions will be presented late April this year at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions 2024, which is one of the largest and most prestigious exhibitions of this kind in the world.
