Are you a competitive chess player, a casual enthusiast or just starting out? Come and join the AGH University Chess Tournament held on 20 May, 4pm to 7.40pm, in the Self-Study Reading Room at the AGH University Main Library.

Participation

To participate, you must register for the tournament by 18 May 2026 via ChessManager, specifying your university and the faculty/department you represent.

The tournament is open to members of Krakow academia. Only students, doctoral students and staff are eligible to play, provided they register in time and present a valid document entitling them to participate (a valid student, doctoral student or staff ID card) in the playing hall before the start of the competition.

The entry fee for the tournament is PLN 30, payable in cash at the venue by 3.30pm.

Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis due to the 100-player limit.

In the event of withdrawal, please notify us to allow players from the reserve list to take your place.

Tournament format

  • Swiss system: 7 rounds
  • Time control: 12 seconds + 3 minutes per player
  • The tournament is not registered with FIDE.

Prizes

The winner receives the Rector’s Cup and the title of AGH University's Best Chess Player for 2026.

The top three finishers receive prizes, whilst tickets for the AGH University Beach Zone at  Juwenalia Krakoskie will be raffled among the participants.


The event is organised by the AGH University Student Government, the Main Library, and AZS AGH Kraków – Chess Section.
