Exceptional metallurgists among the Honorary Professors of the AGH UST

Exceptional metallurgists among the Honorary Professors of the AGH UST

On October 28, 2022, two members joined the esteemed group of AGH UST Honorary Professors. The Senate has conferred this title upon two exceptional metallurgists: Prof. Andrzej Łędzki and Prof. Janusz Łuksza. The ceremony took place in the Assembly Hall.

The honourable scientists have been associated with the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science, which had submitted for the conferral of the titles.

Professor Andrzej Łędzki was awarded the title ‘in recognition of all his actions in the fields of science, education, and organisation for the benefit of the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow’.

In turn, Prof. Janusz Łuksza received the distinction ‘in recognition of his actions to promote cooperation between the university and the metallurgical industry in the fields of scientific research and the education of professional employees, as well as for the activity and consistency in organising and modernising the educational process at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow’.

In the opening speech, Prof. Jerzy Lis, AGH UST Rector, mentioned a number of the most important facts from the academic activity of both professors, emphasising their involvement, as well as research, educational, and organisational achievements, and thanked them for their remarkable contributions and hard work for the benefit of the AGH UST.

In her speech, Prof. Agnieszka Kopia, Dean of the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science, provided a detailed account of the biographies of the two Honorary Professors.

Later on, in his laudatory speech, Professor Mirosław Karbowniczek from the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science said the following, alluding to the biography of Prof. Andrzej Łędzki:

Without a doubt, Professor Andrzej Łędzki is a renowned scientific authority, a precursor in the field of reduction processes in blast furnaces, and an initiator and creator of numerous applicational solutions for the steel industry; finally, he is a valued teacher and a prominent contributor in the area of organisation within this university and the entire academic community.

In his laudation for Prof. Janusz Łuksza, Professor Janusz Majta from the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science, said:

Working at the AGH UST, Professor Łuksza has been performing his duties as an academic teacher with great dedication.He carried out numerous research and implementation projects commissioned by the metal processing industry, especially in the field of plastic processing technology.With undying passion, he has been relaying his knowledge to young scientists, his students, and doctoral students, being able to straightforwardly explain even the most intricate technical issues, and his lectures have always attracted exceptional interest.

After the laudatory speeches, the official presentation of epitogia, diplomas, and medals for the Honorary Professors took place.

Subsequently, all guests gathered in the Assembly Hall had the pleasure of listening to master lectures given by the honourable professors. Prof. Andrzej Łędzki talked about the decarbonisation of iron metallurgy and the modelling of shaft processes, and Prof. Janusz Łuksza delivered a lecture on the fascinating history and modern applications of wire drawing technology.
