Tech solutions agreement with AQUA

The AGH University of Krakow and AQUA SA entered into an agreement on cooperation concerning water and sewage management in the Bielsko-Biała agglomeration.

The cooperation shall consist in:

  • research and development work concerning water and sewage management in the Bielsko-Biała agglomeration,
  • optimisation of costs in the operation of wastewater treatment plant with a focus on circular economy,
  • transformation of waste generated in the wastewater treatment plant,
  • research and development work in the field of detection and monitoring of the reduction of the quantity of extraneous water flowing into the collective treatment plant from the agglomeration of Bielsko-Biała,
  • research and development work aimed at reaching energy self-sufficiency of the collective wastewater treatment plant in Bielsko-Biała.

The agreement was concluded on 23 January 2025 by the AGH University Vice-Rector for Cooperation, Professor Rafał Wiśniowski, and the President of AQUA SA, Dr Krzysztof Michalski. The coordinators of the agreement are Professor Krzysztof Chmielowski, Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas, and Łukasz Żoczek, coordinator of the section for research and development at AQUA SA.

The main activity of AQUA is the exploitation of waterworks and sewage systems and facilities. Every year, the company provides ca. 14 million m3 of water and receives and treats ca. 12 million m3 of waste water. It has two large and a few smaller water treatment stations and two mechanical and biological wastewater treatment plants.
