Funding is available for international partnerships led by Polish research organisations, involving at least one partner from the EEA Countries: Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein. While the call is open to all research fields and topics, proposals must address challenges within at least one of the three priority areas:

• the European green transition,
• democracy, the rule of law, and human rights,
• social inclusion and resilience.

The Kick-off grants shall support Polish researchers in forming international partnerships with collaborators from EEA countries, while developing conceptual frameworks for an interdisciplinary research project.

This will be achieved through funding of bilateral on-site visits for direct, in-person cooperation. In addition, the National Science Centre will provide participants with support measures to develop their skills, tailored to the needs identified during the application process.

The call budget is EUR 150,000. The Cooperation & Capacity Kick-off grant is awarded as a lump sum of EUR 2,800, intended to cover travel and subsistence costs for the Principal Investigator’s on-site visits to the EEA countries.

To facilitate the formation of international research consortia, the NCN has launched a dedicated EEA&Norway Grants Partner Matchmaking Tool. The platform enables Polish research organisations and potential partners from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein to showcase their expertise and establish direct contacts. We highly encourage all interested to register in the database.

The Coordination and Capacity Kick-off call is a preparatory initiative intended to support the development of project concepts for the upcoming LANGSPIL Interdisciplinary call focusing on interdisciplinary basic research, scheduled for launch in November 2026. With a total budget of EUR 12 million, the call will support 3-year projects that integrate multiple disciplines, with a particular emphasis on the methodologies and approaches of the social sciences and humanities. While the Coordination & Capacity Kick-off call will support the preparation of partnerships and concepts for applications, the submission of applications in the LANGSPIL call will remain optional.
