Visit of representatives from German universities

Between March 28 and 29, 2023, the AGH University hosted a delegation of more than 20 people from leading German higher education institutions. The organiser of the event was the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – German Academic Exchange Service).

The DAAD was established in 1925 and is one of the largest organisations in the world that is responsible for academic exchange. As a joint venture of German universities, the DAAD promotes international cooperation between academic institutions and acts as an ambassador of German education, science, and culture. The most important purpose of the DAAD is to support cooperation between German and international universities, especially through the exchange of students and scientists. 15 regional offices and 50 information centres across the globe provide information to those who wish to study or conduct research in Germany. The DAAD offers more than 200 scholarship programmes for students, graduates, and scientists in all fields of study for people from all over the world. The DAAD actively promotes German higher education and encourages the brightest students and scientists to study and carry out research in Germany.

The following people participated in the meeting with the representatives of German universities: Prof. Jerzy Lis, AGH University Rector (online); Professor Rafał Wiśniowski, Vice-Rector for Cooperation; Professor Marek Gorgoń, Vice-Rector for Science; Rafał Dańko, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs; Tadeusz Telejko, Vice-Rector for General Affairs, and Henryk Zioło, AGH University Chancellor.

During the first part of the event, the AGH University Rector, Prof. Jerzy Lis, presented the organisational structure of our university, as well as the chief objectives of the new university strategy for development. Later, Professor Rafał Wiśniowski, Vice-Rector for Cooperation, gave a presentation about the cooperation between the AGH University and Polish and international partners; subsequently, Professor Marek Gogroń talked about the university-wide activities implemented within the IDUB programme. Dr hab. Anna Siwik, Associate Professor at the AGH University, and Dr hab. Eng. Jan Falkus, Associate Professor at the AGH University and Coordinator for Cooperation with Federal Republic of Germany, talked about the student cooperation with Germany and presented the effects of a Polish-German team coordinating bilateral contacts between the two countries. Additionally, representatives of students and doctoral students also participated in the meeting. The discussion that ensued during the meeting touched upon the changes that are taking place within our university’s structure, as well as the possibilities of our research potential that continues to grow. After the presentations delivered by the student and doctoral student, our guests had many questions about the participation of students in the governing structure of our university and their real influence on the development of the AGH University infrastructure.

The German delegation consisted of rectors and chancellors of the following HEIs: Freie Universität Berlin, Universität Passau, Universität Regensburg, Universität Leipzig, Universität Bayreuth, Universität Gießen, Universität Hildesheim, Universität Stuttgart, Universität Hohenheim, Deutschen Sporthochschule Köln, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Technische Universität Berlin, Technischen Universität Dortmund, Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg.

During their stay in Poland, the DAAD delegation visited universities in Wrocław, Krakow, and Warsaw.
