Agreement on cooperation between AGH UST and KGHM Polska Miedź

On January 17, 2022, in Warsaw, the AGH UST signed an agreement on cooperation with KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., which aims to intensify and reinforce the already prosperous collaboration.

The cooperation will be fulfilled through:

  • Initiating research and development works in fields of interest to both parties
  • Joint applications for external funding for R&D works, both domestic and foreign
  • Joint realisation of R&D and implementation projects in fields of interest to both parties
  • Paid counselling by the AGH UST to KGHM
  • Paid realisation of R&D projects by the AGH UST for KGHM
  • Consultations and experience exchange
  • Field visits of AGH UST employees at KGHM
  • Publications of results from joint research
  • Organising scientific conferences and seminars in the fields specified in the agreement
  • Other joint activities aimed at the development of science and technology.

The agreement was concluded by Professor Jerzy Lis, the AGH UST Rector, and Rafał Wiśniowski, Vice-Rector for Cooperation, as well as Jerzy Chludziński, President and CEO of KGHM.
The implementation of the provisions rests on:

  • At the AGH UST: Professor Rafał Wiśniowski, Vice-Rector for Cooperation, and Professor Tadeusz Knych, Dean of the Faculty of Non-Ferrous Metals
  • At KGHM: Adam Bugajczuk, Vice President of the Management Board (Development)

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first joint initiative between the two entities. In 2013, the AGH – KGHM Laboratory of Critical Elements was opened. The unit was established thanks to the joint efforts of the AGH UST Faculty of Geology, Geophysics, and Environmental Protection and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The laboratory boasts, among other things, the JEOL SuperProbe 8230 electron microprobe, which is used to non-destructively determine the chemical composition of solid materials and inorganic synthetic substances.
