Wydarzenia w AGH

Akademickie Centrum Materiałów i Nanotechnologii AGH zaprasza na seminarium, które odbędzie się stacjonarnie 24 listopada 2022 r. o godz. 14.00.

Wykład zatytułowany „Recent advances and challenges in quantum information science” wygłosi dr inż. Paweł Szumniak z Wydziału Fizyki i Informatyki Stosowanej AGH.

Miejsce: ACMiN AGH (ul. Kawiory 30, bud. D-16, II piętro, sala 1.02A)

Streszczenie

The field of quantum information science has a great potential for revolutionizing modern technology and contributing to solving global challenges. The field emerged about 40 years ago and has an interdisciplinary character since it involves physics, material science, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science. The economic and industrial potential of innovation which quantum science can bring attracted not only scientist from academia but also the biggest hight-tech IT companies such as Google, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, and many others which want to harness unique and fascinating laws of quantum physics to build a quantum computing devices. Moreover, the 2022 Nobel Prize in physics was awarded partially for “…pioneering quantum information science” which also emphasizes great importance of the field.

During the seminar, I will introduce basic concepts of quantum information science and discuss key advantages and requirements for physical implementation of quantum computers. I will list most promising platforms for physical realization of basic building blocks of quantum computing devices. I will also highlight recent state-of-the-art achievements of the field and identify near term goals and challenges that have to be overcome to fabricate useful large-scale quantum computers.
