AGH UST student among the best foreign students in Poland

The best foreign students in Poland received awards in the Interstudents 2023 competition. A special award – for active support in establishing relations between international students and the local community – was given to Amaliya Iskhakova from Uzbekistan, a student in Computer Science at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering.

Amaliya was interested in Polish culture and history; she has been learning the language. She received the Pole’s Card, which allowed her to study in our country. She chose Krakow and the AGH UST.

Choosing a university, I considered academic rankings; choosing a city – I just watched a bunch of videos for tourists. Krakow put a spell on me from the start; and after I came here, it turned out that it is even more beautiful than all those videos gave it credit’, recalls Amaliya. ‘I want to get a profession that will facilitate my continued development and allow me to get a good and well-paid job’, she says, explaining her choice of the field of study.

She knows several languages (Uzbek, Polish, English, Russian, and Bulgarian) and helps international students establish contact with the local community, as well as translates between foreign and Polish students.

She is a member of the Cheerleaders section of the Academic Sports Association. Her trainer, Klaudia Dziadek, noticed Amaliya already during the recruitment to the section.

She already had a background in dancing and gymnastics. The team consists of girls from many countries; she quickly made friends. She’s extremely open and has a positive attitude’, says the trainer who nominated Amaliya to the competition.

The laureate from the AGH UST finds time to sing in the ESN (Erasmus Student Network) Band. She participates in fairs and other student events. Her friends from university value her for her smile and remarkable energy.

The INTERSTUDENT competition, organised by the Perspektywy Educational Foundation, within the ‘Study in Poland’ programme carried out jointly with CRASP, concentrates fully on the environment of international students in Poland. The jury selects laureates from foreigners studying at public and private Polish universities at the first and second cycles, as well as in doctoral schools, studying in Polish or in a foreign language. The awards go to people who enrich local academic circles with their activity and build bridges between cultures. To be considered by the jury, students must actively work in their local environments, be it cultural, social, ecological, or sports activity, take actions towards promoting multiculturalism, as well as be good students or take part in interesting research projects.

The award ceremony took place during an official gala in Białystok between February 9–10, 2023. The event was co-organised by CRASP, the Medical University of Bialystok, and ‘Perspektywy’ within the framework of the ‘Study in Poland’ programme.
