AGH Racing triumphing at Australia-held Formula Student event

At the international competition organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia (SAE-A) 2020 students from the AGH Racing Team claimed the top spot in two out of four events run this year.

The SAE-A 2020 Competition was held exclusively online and featured only the static events: Design, Cost and Presentation. A special LEAP Award was also presented this year.

Showcasing their new combustion CV racing car, the AGH UST team won:

  • 1st place in the Design event for the design, construction and technologies used in their vehicle and
  • LEAP Award (special award in recognition of the team’s technological progress and advancement)  for the use of numerical simulations (CFD and FEM) when designing the car.

In the Design event contestants present and defend the design of their vehicles to a panel of judges. A number of factors are assessed, including design principles, conducted analyses, validations of computational models and, above all, theoretical and practical know-how of the team members in the scope of racing car construction. The team of AGH UST designers got the maximum score!

AGH Racing is a student team founded in 2012, which specialises in the design and construction of racing cars in the Formula Student class. The team is the only one in Poland to be developing three different technologies at the same time: after numerous successes of combustion cars, the first electric racing car was added to the designers’ portfolio in 2018 and currently the team is working on Poland’s first autonomous car. AGH Racing has successfully competed in many international engineering contests, performing on race tracks all over the world.

The team’s participation in the competition was financed under the Najlepsi z Najlepszych 4.0 Scheme launched by the Ministry of Science and National Education.
