New building to be built for Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science

On 3rd September 2019, the AGH University of Science and Technology signed an agreement with Mostostal Warszawa SA, as the general contractor, to build a new facility for the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science. 

On behalf of the university, the contract was signed by Henryk Zioło, AGH UST Chancellor, and Maria Ślizień, AGH UST Bursar, and on behalf of Mostostal Warszawa SA, signatures were put by Jorge Calabuig-Ferre, Member of Management Board, and Maciej Sasak, Division Manager. The contract is worth PLN 36,291,842.28. 

The event was attended by professor Tadeusz Słomka, AGH UST Rector, the representatives of the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science: professor Janusz Wolny, Faculty Dean, Marek Ciechanowski, Administrative Director, Ryszard Niszczota, Director for Technical Affairs, Dariusz Mendyk, Vice-Director for Technical Affairs, the technical coordinator of the project, and the representatives of the financial department, as well as the representatives of Mostostal: Artur Sikora, Contract Director, Grzegorz Danikiewicz, Commercial Director, and Mariusz Rudnik, Site Manager. 

The building will have five storeys (including one underground level) and the usable floor area will be about 3,617 square metres. It will host rooms of various functions, for example, technologically advanced laboratories, rooms for scientists and researchers, social rooms, classes, lecture rooms, maintenance and technical rooms, as well as a storage place. The total cost of the project, including specialist laboratory equipment, is estimated at over PLN 44 million. 

The development will constitute the base for the development of biophysics at AGH UST, both as a research area and a new field of study. It is planned to make the building available and operational before the beginning of the academic year 2021/2022.
