AGH UST in lead of Polish universities with number of obtained patents
The AGH University of Science and Technology is among top Polish universities with regard to the number of patents and protection rights for utility models granted by the Polish Patent Office.  

Professor Andrzej Jajszczyk only Pole appointed to European Research Council
Professor Andrzej Jajszczyk has been appointed by the European Commission to the Scientific Council, which determines the fundamental strategies and methodologies of the European Research Council. Professor Jajszczyk will be the only Polish scientist in the Council in its just-commencing four-year term of office. 


AGH UST is a “Forbes Diamond”

In the latest ranking “Forbes Diamonds 2017”, which presents the most dynamically developing companies in Poland, the AGH University of Science and Technology was rated number 90, reaching the highest position among all Polish universities, in the group of entities with income of above PLN 250m. AGH UST has been ranked on this prestigious list for the first time in history.  

“Student-Inventor” awarded prize for multi-purpose submarine vehicle

Sebastian Dawid Olędzki from AGH UST was awarded a prize at the 7th National Competition “Student-Inventor” for a mechanism used in “A submarine vehicle with a hull of changeable geometry”. 


AGH UST best Polish technical university in ranking Nature Index

In the latest ranking Nature Index 2017, presenting the share of scientists and researchers in the most prestigious scientific journals related to the field of natural sciences, the AGH University of Science and Technology is the leader among Polish technical universities, at the same time holding a very high third position among all Polish universities.  

Industrial manipulator IRV5 one of best designs at international robot competition

The industrial manipulator IRV5, developed by the AGH UST Special Interest Group “Robotics”, took third place in the category “freestyle” at the international robot competition RoboTEC 2017 in Romania. The competition, which presented mobile and humanoid robots as well as unmanned aircraft, was entered by 37 teams from all over Europe, and the AGH UST students were the only participants from Poland.

The industrial manipulator IRV5, developed by the AGH UST Special Interest Group “Robotics”, won in the category Freestyle at the competition of mobile robots Robomaticon 2017, held in Warsaw.  


AGH UST students awarded prizes at most prestigious exhibition of inventions in Europe

A submarine robot with a hull of changeable geometry, and the system “Total Car Rescue”, which prevents drivers from falling asleep, are the inventions of AGH UST students that were awarded gold medals with distinction at the most prestigious exhibition of inventions in Europe “Geneva Inventions”. 

Students of Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas best in Europe

A team of students of the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas have won the European eliminations of the international petroleum competition PetroBowl. As a prize, the team will represent Europe in the international finals. Moreover, Wojciech Labuda, the captain of our team, has had an individual success winning first prize in a European competition of student scientific papers in the category “undergraduate”, and has qualified for the world final.  


Metallurgist’s Day 2017 AGH UST

The celebrations of the Metallurgist's Day at the AGH University of Science and Technology took place on 9-12 May 2017. This year, the event coincided with the 95th anniversary of the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science. 

Professor Antoni Tajduś awarded degree honoris causa of Pedagogical University of Krakow

We are pleased to inform that on 11 May, 2017, professor Antoni Tajduś was awarded a degree honoris causa of the Pedagogical University of Krakow. 

AGH UST fields of study among best in new Ranking of Engineering Studies

The Perspektywy Education Foundation has for the first time published the Ranking of Engineering Studies 2017, which evaluated 21 most popular disciplines of technical courses. According to the jury, the AGH University of Science and Technology has the best engineering study programmes in Poland at the fields of study of Technical Physics, Materials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.   

AGH UST graduate wins ABB prize for master thesis on system controlled by brain waves

Piotr Palczewski, MSc, a graduate of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics, has become a laureate of the prestigious competition for the ABB prize.His master thesis “Developing a system for entering text using EEG brain waves” was appreciated by the jury, which awarded the author first prize and the amount of PLN 30,000.   

Championship of KNE Fideltronik in international competition of autonomous vehicles NXP Cup

The team of KNE Fideltronik, representing the AGH University of Science and Technology, took first place in the finals of the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) of the autonomous vehicles competition NXP Cup 2017, improving their result from the previous year.  


2nd place of the AGH UST among Polish technical universities in the ranking of European universities

In the latest ranking of the best European universities, published by THE Times Higher Education, the AGH University of Science and Technology came second among Polish technical universities and was ranked the fifth-best Polish university in the general comparison.


On 10th June, 2017, there was an AGH UST DAY – a great family picnic and a holiday of the academic community of our university: students, employees, graduates, and their families.  

Prometheus among the 100 most powerful computers in the world

In the latest TOP500 ranking, detailing the world’s most powerful computer systems, which was published on 19 June 2017, the fastest Polish computer Prometheus was listed in the 71st position.


AGH UST in the International Ranking of Academic Subjects

The latest results of the international ranking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects – Shanghai assessment of the areas of scientific research classified into five basic categories – have been released. AGH University of Science and Technology as the only Polish university was shortlisted in the categories  of mining &mineral engineering(world rank 33) and metallurgical engineering (world rank 51-75) in the subject of Engineering.

E-Moto AGH UST fourth in general classification of SmartMoto Challenge 2017 Event

E-Moto AGH UST Team, debutant in SmartMoto Challenge Event, qualified fourth in the general classification. Furthermore the award for “the best new team” was for AGH UST students an unquestionable success. 

Great Success of AGH UST Solar Boat in Monaco Solar&Electric Boat Challenge

The solar boat “Baśka” was fifth in the general classification in this year’s edition of “Monaco Solar & Electric Boat Challenge” race, held on 13-15 July. The race comprised endurance race, slalom and one-on-one duels. This is a great success of AGH UST Solar Boat, the only one representing Poland in this prestigious event.


Professor Tadeusz Słomka – Honorary Professor of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas

On 22 September 2017 Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas held an official ceremony, during which professor Tadeusz Słomka, the Rector of AGH UST, was awarded the title of Honorary Professor.

Mechatronics Engineering with the prestigious ABET accreditation

Mechatronics Engineering with both bachelor and master degrees conducted in English by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics was awarded the American ABET accreditation. AGH University of Science and Technology is the first university in Poland, and among the few in Europe, to receive the accreditation. The awarded masters degree program conducted in English is the only Mechatronics Engineering with this prestigious certificate in the world.

Best Student Chapter Award 2017 goes to AGH UST Geophysical Society

The AGH UST Geophysical Society came first in the Student Chapter Excellence Programme, which was announced during the prestigious SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) conference.


We have officially begun academic year 2017/2018

On 4th October, 2017, the AGH University of Science and Technology hosted the opening ceremony of the academic year 2017/2018. 

Three AGH UST faculties with the highest A+ rating

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has announced the results of its  recent comprehensive evaluation of the quality of scientific and R&D activity of research institutions. The highest ( A+ ) rating, awarded to units demonstrating an outstanding excellence of scientific or development work, was received by as many as three AGH UST faculties.

Hybrid solar energy converter won gold medal at Taipei invention show

Hybrid solar energy converter developed by prof. Krzysztof Wojciechowski of the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics and DSc Konstanty Marszałek of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications won gold medal at the International Invention Show & Technosmart (INST) held in Taiwan.


Hoborski Science Days at AGH UST

On the occasion of Hoborski Science Days at AGH UST and the 20th anniversary of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, a ceremonial session of the AGH UST Senate took place in the AGH University of Science and Technology on 16th November 2017. 

Robot for oak seed enhancement has won gold

A robot for oak seed enhancement, whose co-inventors are scientists from AGH UST, has won gold medal at 11th. International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS 2017. 

Photovoltaic minisystem one of the best student designs in Poland

A project developed by Coal & Clay – student society of the Faculty of Energy and Fuels - won first place in the interdisciplinary category of the poster session contest which accompanied the 3rd National Convention of Student Societies. The winning project: Design and construction of a model powerwall-powerbank system was presented by two members of the society: Paulina Kiełczykowska of the Faculty of Energy and Fuels and Miłosz Olszewski of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics. 

AGH UST’s Media Centre awarded in ProJuvenes

We are happy to announce that AGH UST's Media Centre won first place in the ‘Student Media’ category of  ProJuvenes Awards – a competition recognizing best student initiatives, projects and organisations. Both the jury and Internet users appreciated the contribution made by MINE TV, RADIO17, BIS AGH and KSAF to the creation of a strong academic community and promotion of student activity as well as the Centre’s reliability and the varied nature of the media content released by its team. The results of the contest were announced on 25 November during the official award gala event. 


St Barbara’s Day celebrations

The celebrations of mining festivities of “Barbórka”, deeply rooted in the AGH UST history, started on 4th December, 2017. However, the main events took place on 7th and 8th December. 

Over PLN 38m worth of grant funding to be spent on teaching excellence projects

AGH UST will receive over PLN 38m to finance projects aiming at improving the University’s standards of teaching excellence. The grant was awarded to 10 biggest Polish universities through Stream III of the Integrated Academia Programmes Competition coordinated by the National Centre for Research and Development as a part of the 2014–2020 Knowledge Education Development Scheme. 

Professor Leszek Magalas first Pole to have been awarded the Zener Gold Medal

Professor Leszek Magalas is the first Pole in history who has received the Zener Prize – one of the most important and prestigious international awards in the field of materials science.
