Construction of new AGH UST sports hall is getting off the ground

A new multi-purpose sports facility will be erected at the junction of Buszka and Tokarskiego streets. The new development to be added to the premises of the AGH UST Campus will be equipped with, among other things, a sports hall with spectator stands, several courts , a climbing wall, a fitness room and a gym. The roof will feature a green terrace of over 1300 m2.

22 July, 2020, saw the construction of the latest AGH UST project getting off the ground. The multi-purpose sports hall is the answer to the growing needs of the University’s community and the numerous sports clubs within the AZS AGH Academic Sports Association. Every year approximately 900 athletes represent AGH UST in sporting events both domestically and internationally.

“Sporting activity is, alongside education, research and culture, an equally important element of our activity in general. We note that for many years AGH UST has been taking top spots at Poland’s National Academic Championships. For the last three consecutive seasons we have retained our position as a leader in the group of technical universities. I am convinced that our most recent investment, whose construction I am happy to officially open with this first, symbolic shovel of earth at the end of my term of office, will substantially benefit our community” – said Professor Tadeusz Słomka, AGH UST Rector.

The latest 5-storey facility located on the AGH UST campus will be predominantly a sports and entertainment venue. The centre will host parallel professional training sessions as well as premier league volleyball, handball and basketball games. The building will be equipped with, among other things, a sports hall with stands capable of accommodating up to 600 spectators and courts for team sports and badminton. Additionally, the facility will be home to a gym, fitness rooms, wellness area with sauna and massage parlours as well as squash courts. The building, which will offer over 7 thousand m2 of usable area, will cost PLN 50m to build.
