Atomically precise design of supported noble metal nanoparticles via Atomic Layer Deposition – online seminar


The AGH UST Academic Center for Materials and Nanotechnology invites to a virtual seminar in the series “Krakow Condensed Matter Seminar” which will be held on 5th May 2021, at 9.00 am.

A lecture entitled “Atomically precise design of supported noble metal nanoparticles via Atomic Layer Deposition” will be presented by Prof. Dr. ir. Jolien Dendooven (Ghent University, Belgium).

Abstract

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a promising vapor-phase deposition method for the precise synthesis of supported metal nanoparticles, e.g. for applications in the field of catalysis. Synchrotron-based in situ methods are highly valuable to study the particle formation process. In this talk, examples will be shown of how ALD process parameters can offer control over the size, coverage and composition of (bi)metallic nanoparticles, and how ultrathin oxide ALD coatings on top of platinum nanoparticles can be exploited to drastically enhance their thermal stability against particle coarsening.
