AGH Space Systems wins Award for Best Rover Design

The AGH UST Space Systems Team has won the Best Design Award at the European Rover Challenge – ERC Space and Robotics Event 2020, held in Kielce.

The award has been initiated by the Warsaw-based firm SENER Polska, which designed and delivered, among other things, the umbilical connection for the European rover called ExoMars.

AGH Space Systems received the ‘Best Design’ award. The winning teams in all other categories came from Germany:

  • STAR Dresden e.V – with the ‘Best Docs’ award – were recognised for extraordinary professionalism and outstanding documentation prepared in accordance with the ERC Regulations,
  • ERIG e.V – ‘Best Science Design’ award – received the honour for their in-depth analysis and interdisciplinary approach to the project.

The winning teams, which were selected on the basis of technical documentation submitted by them, will be offered an opportunity to take part in a webinar with experts from an international group called SENER, working on Mars missions launched by NASA and the European Space Agency.

This year’s edition of the ERC Competition will be held between 11 and 13 September as a hybrid event involving technologies that will enable the teams from all over the world to remotely participate in the event. A U.S. remote management system as well as mobile vehicles delivered by a Polish robotic start-up were used to build the innovative platform which the participating teams will use to control the robot located on the Martian track in Kielce. This is the first solution of this type ever deployed.

33 teams from 14 countries have secured places in the competition’s finals.
