The AGH UST will organise advanced courses in artificial intelligence within the NAWA SPINAKER programme

A university-based consortium that comprises the Department of Automatic Control and Robotics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering, the Institute of Computer Science of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics, and Telecommunications, and the Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET have signed an agreement on carrying out a project within the NAWA SPINAKER programme – Intensive international education programmes. The total of PLN 571,350 will be spent on creating advanced courses in the field of artificial intelligence. The project coordinator is Dr hab. (Eng.) Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska, Associate Professor at the AGH UST.

The main tasks of the project include the introduction of intensive international education programmes in the ‘blended learning’ formula in the field of fundamental issues of artificial intelligence in medicine, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and cutting-edge HPC systems. The thematic scope of the courses encompasses advanced artificial intelligence technologies in autonomous driving, healthcare and robotics, advanced artificial intelligence technologies in deep learning and natural language processing, and efficient usage of HPC systems in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The courses will also touch upon the educational possibilities in Poland with special emphasis on the current offer of the AGH UST, the application procedure to the AGH UST Doctoral School, prospects of receiving funding for such projects, as well as elements of Polish history and culture combined with Polish language classes.

The project will include 15 international universities (from the USA, Taiwan, Japan, China, India, Great Britain, Germany, and Jordan) and at least 450 foreign students/doctoral students, including 45 in the on-site formula. Students and staff from China will receive particular attention due to their significant participation in scientific, research, and implementational works presented at the most notable AI conferences. The most recent predictions show that, until 2030, China will become the world power in IT/AI.

The chief objective of the Intensive international education programmes project within the SPINAKER programme, carried out by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, is to internationalise Polish higher education institutions, and, in particular:

  • To attract more attention to the education offer of Polish universities from international students and doctoral students
  • To increase the number of students and doctoral students studying at Polish universities
  • To expand the offer of intensive international education programmes, conducted also in hybrid or completely online formulas

Note that one of the beneficiaries of the programme is also the AGH UST Centre for International Affairs, which will allocate a total of PLN 528,526.90 to organising the second edition of the ‘AGH UST International School’.
