The AGH UST has renewed the agreement with the Empa Institute (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology). This will allow our institutions to improve the perspectives for development and cooperation in the scope of bilateral research, student and doctoral student exchange, and implementation of international projects.
The Empa Institute is a research centre that makes up the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology Domain – an association of Swiss universities and research institutions. Currently, the unit employs about 1,000 scientists and engineers. It is one of the most recognisable and renowned institutes in terms of research and application projects in Europe. Several dozen doctoral students from all over the world visit Empa to conduct research in physical chemistry of solids, materials science, physics, chemistry, mechanics, robotics, construction, biomechanics, and other related fields.
The cooperation between the AGH UST and Empa blossomed thanks to the efforts of Professor Dariusz Kata from the AGH UST and Professor Thomas Graule from Empa. In 2005, the first general agreement on cooperation was concluded, and its details were specified in a 2012 amendment. This renewal was signed on September 23, 2022 by:
The multiannual close relationship between our university and Empa has borne fruit in the form of intensive education of our students, which resulted in the creation of 44 MSc theses, bringing about 12 doctoral students, and the implementation of five international projects. Our joint academic achievement also includes more than 40 papers published in renowned international journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports.
