Stained Glass Art Museum to be established in Krakow

The Stained Glass Museum, AGH University of Science and Technology, Jagiellonian University, and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts signed a letter of intent regarding the establishment of a research centre for stained glass art that constitutes an important element of the world’s cultural heritage. The signers declare their will to take action and work towards the institution of the Stained Glass Art Museum.

The new museum will be tasked with exhibiting the collections that are currently in the possession of the Stained Glass Museum, as well as any new acquisitions resulting from the establishment of this institution. Furthermore, with the support of Krakow universities, the new facility will develop research and educational activities.

For the AGH UST in Krakow, the initiative to create the Stained Glass Art Museum constitutes an opportunity to expand its activity in the field of materials science, in relation to the elements and aspects of creating stained glass and architectural glass’, emphasises Prof. Jerzy Lis, the AGH UST Rector.

We’re launching an initiative to establish a local museum that will closely cooperate with the JU, the AGH UST, and the Academy of Fine Arts. This is meant to be an institution that will continue the mission of the Stained Glass Workshop and Museum, but to a considerably larger extent. On the one hand, it will take over the custody of the unique Polish stained glass art legacy, on the other, it will be a world-class institution, providing development opportunities for historians, art historians, scientists, conservators, and artists focusing on the broad issue of art in the public sphere’, notes Piotr Ostrowski, Director of the Stained Glass Workshop and Museum.
