Professor Janusz Kowal – a specialist in machine dynamics, vibroacoustics, and control theory – was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the AGH UST. The ceremony took place on January 13, 2023 in the Assembly Hall.

Professor Kowal was granted the title for his active contribution to the development of science in the fields of mechanical system dynamics, vibroacoustics, and mechanical structure and system control, as well as extraordinary organisational activities and promotion of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland and abroad.

The AGH UST Senate decided to confer him the title on the motion of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics, which was supported by positive reviews from the Warsaw University of Technology’s Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering and the Silesian University of Technology’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

For years now, you have been elevating the prestige of the AGH University of Science and Technology. You always support young scientists, showing them the right path and sharing a portion of your opulent experience. On this special day, we offer our gratitude for your effort and dedication’, said Prof. Jerzy Lis, AGH UST Rector, in his opening speech.

In his laudation, Dr hab. Eng. Krzysztof Mendrok, Associate Professor at the AGH UST and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics, gave a detailed account of the life of the Honorary Professor, describing his academic and educational achievements and organisational activity. Dr Mendrok emphasised that the prominent activity of Professor Janusz Kowal in science, education, and organisation has been recognised and rewarded on numerous occasions.

All these commendable achievements go hand in hand with the character traits and moral stand of Professor Kowal. He is an extremely kind, open, and empathetic person. An innumerable group of his colleagues unanimously testifies to his readiness to help in professional and private matters’, concluded Dr Mendrok, congratulating Professor Kowal on receiving this exceptional title.

After the ceremony of presenting the epitogium, the diploma, and the commemorative medal, Professor Janusz Kowal gave a lecture on the development of research in the field of vibration reduction in mechanical systems at the AGH UST.
