Grant for research on biosensors for an AGH UST scientist

Dr hab. Eng. Artur Rydosz, Associate Professor at the AGH UST from the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics, and Telecommunications received a grant in the amount of PLN 1,952,600 in the SONATA BIS 12 competition organised by the National Science Centre.

The scientist will carry out fundamental research to determine technological parameters in order to increase the sensitivity of sensors based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR). In the future, the results will facilitate the production of cheap and commonly available sensors used in screening tests for civilisational diseases, such as the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and diabetes.

The topic of the project can be translated as: Research on the possibility of creating biosensors to detect diabetes and NAFLD biomarkers using TWD/GLAD technology.

Dr Artur Rydosz works at the Institute of Electronics. He is the head of the Biomarkers Analysis LAB, the author of Diabetomat (a breath analyser), founder and president of the Z Cukrzycą na Ty foundation, and a diabetes educator.

The SONATA BIS competition is intended for researchers who want to establish a research team. The competition money can be allocated to salaries, including student and doctoral student scholarships, the purchase or creation of research equipment, and other costs related to the implementation of a project.

In the 12th edition of the competition, 58 laureates have been selected from 400 submitted applications: 9 in the field of the humanities, social sciences, and art; 33 in the field of exact science and technology; and 16 in the field of life sciences.
