Dr hab. inż. Tomasz Moskalewicz of the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science has won a grant awarded through the Beethoven Classic 3 Competition organised by the National Science Centre and German research funding organisation Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.

Mr Moskalewicz will receive PLN 996 250 worth of funding for the project called: „The Development of electrophoretic co-deposition of bioactive and antibacterial ceramics and biodegradable polymers for the purpose of creating innovative composite coatings for biomedical applications ” to be pursued in cooperation with Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini of Friedrich Alexander Universität in Erlangen and Nuremberg.

The Beethoven Classic Competition provides financing for research projects in humanities, social and art sciences as well as in selected disciplines of physical and technical sciences. The winning projects will be carried out by Polish and German teams working together. The research activity may take two or three years.

The third edition of the competition attracted the total of 130 applications, from which a panel of experts selected 34 most promising projects. The joint Polish-German applications were evaluated in two stages: the projects were initially assessed by external experts appointed by NCN and DFG to be later reviewed for the final verdict that was agreed on during expert panel sessions.

The German Research Foundation is an organisation which provides financing for basic research in all scientific disciplines. It is an association of German universities, research institutions and scientific societies. DFG is a private entity financed mainly from sources provided by the federal and local governments.
