When the Senate of the University of Mining appointed the first Council of the Faculty of Metallurgical Engineering on 1 May, 1922, Metallurgy became a new, separate course. On 30 November 2005 the Senate decided to change the existing name into Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science. The faculty further develops and extends its educational profile. The current Faculty structure comprises departments conducting research and teaching in Metallurgy, Materials Science and Applied Computer Science.
Collaboration exists with Polish research centres of similar character: Faculty of Materials Science and Metallurgy of Silesian Technical University in Katowice, Faculty of Materials Engineering and Applied Physics at Czestochowa Technical University, Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow, Institute of Iron Metallurgy in Gliwice, and others. The faculty maintains excellent contacts with industry by cooperating in research projects and industrial training. International collaboration includes long-term scientific contacts with industry, universities and research institutes Current research is focused on: extractive metallurgy, materials science, metal forming, heat engineering, environmental protection, computer-aided modelling of metallurgical processes and industrial computer science. Our graduates are prepared for careers in metals engineering, heat and air-conditioning, environmental protection and waste management and computer science for materials science. Graduates of Technical and Computer Science Education can work in all types of educational establishments, including universities. They are also prepared to give lectures and training in applied and industrial computer science on curses organized by various organizations, companies and institutions.
