The Faculty of Fuels and Energy is one of youngest faculties at the University of Science and Technology. In 1974, due to growing intensification in the research on energochemical coal processing in Poland and the demand for new specialists educated in this field, the Institute of Coal Energochemistry and Physical Chemistry of Sorbents was established. the Institute was formed from the Institute of Mining Chemistry and Physical Chemistry of Sorbents and the Department of Coke Engineering and Gas Processing. In 1991 the Institute received the status of the Faculty of Coal Energochemistry and Physical Chemistry of Sorbents and in 1995 it was renamed into the Faculty of Fuels and Energy. The Faculty has extended its educational and research offer taking into account new trends and technologies focused on meeting the growing demand for fuels and energy of the highest quality and requirements of sustainable development based on effective implementation of clean , green renewable energy. Each year about 60 graduates are start their careers in chemical industry, power engineering, metallurgical industry, gas industry, heat industry and environmental protection, in local and governmental administration. It is also possible to gain the qualifications required to be employed in education. The most successful graduates can be accepted for doctoral studies in order to continue their development in subject skills.

The Faculty keeps extending research projects and educational offer to include the latest trends in development of power engineering, fuels technology and power policy.

The Faculty collaborates with global partners and take part in a number of projects, conferences and exchanges of students and researchers.
