At present, its activities focus on the general education of engineers in bore hole mining and gas industry as well as on research, and applied projects in particular.
Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas, was established by Rector Kiejstut Żemajtis under the name the Faculty of Drilling and Oil through to the ordinance of Minister of Public Education on 12 July 1967 under the name of Faculty of Drilling and Oil . In consequence of attempts aiming at adapting the structure of the Faculty and the Institute of Drilling and Oil to the teaching and research activities, that structure was subject to several transformations which took place over the last 30 years. In 1995 the Faculty was renamed the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas. The Faculty is the only one in Poland offering education at full-time and extramural engineer, master, doctoral, and postgraduate courses. The Faculty Board is entitled to grant doctor's and Doctor Habilitatus degrees and to put forward motions for conferring the title of professor. The Faculty graduates hold key positions in industry, mainly in the oil and gas sector and prove to be high class specialists in this field in Poland and abroad. They find jobs in prospecting and operation of oil and gas fields. The Faculty collaborate with other research institutions in Poland and abroad taking part in projects focused on modern methods applied in well engineering, geology of deposits, drilling, geo-engineering, hydrodynamics in mining, gas production, surface gas supply systems, underground storage of gas, and environmental protection. The Faculty staff run application tests for the needs of oil and gas industry and training upgrading knowledge and skills of the staff employed by oil and gas companies. The Faculty collaborates with Polish Oil and Gas Company, Petrobaltic, coal and salt mines. The results of such joint projects are reflected in a large number of publications, research papers, patents and prototypes. There also exists collaboration with the following resorts: Kraków, Krynica, Iwonicz Zdrój, Rymanów, concerning complex studies on the chemical composition of mineral waters.
