AGH-UST on top of ratings

22/05/2010

The AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow invariably holds a high position in the most important Polish ratings of universities. In the press ratings of "Perspektywy" and "Rzeczpospolita" published on 13th May this year, we were ranked in the lead, and in the rating Universities in the students' eyes conducted by the portals Gazeta.pl and Edulandia.pl we have been ranked as the best technical university.

The first of the above ratings is regarded as the most important opinion poll of this kind in the country. It encompasses such categories as prestige, the scientific strength of the university, internationalisation, studying conditions and innovativeness. The published results will allow a substantial number of secondary school graduates to reflect on the choice of their educational path. From this perspective, the AGH University of Science and Technology has good reasons for satisfaction.

A general rating of the best universities, the so-called "2010 Rating of Universities" places AGH-UST on a high seventh position in Poland. Compared to the last year this position is slightly lower (in 2009 AGH-UST was ranked fifth). However, it needs to be noticed that this year less attention was paid to such an important category as "employers' preferences". The research into career paths of AGH-UST graduates and the survey of "Rzeczpospolita" Which universities have the presidents of large Polish companies graduated from? clearly show that the high level of education - later reflected in professional careers of our graduates - is the strength of AGH-UST. In the category of technical schools of higher education, our university came third in the ratings.

An even greater success has been a recent rating Universities in the students' eyes published by the portals Gazeta.pl and Edulandia.pl. This survey is a joint project of the portal Gazeta.pl and the Association for PR and Promotion of Polish Universities "PRom", conducted in co-operation with the market research and opinion polling institute MillwardBrown SMG/KRC. The pilot survey of universities was accompanied by works aiming at creating a student rating of universities, based on the opinions of students about studying conditions at their universities. The results, both in the general category as well as in the category of technical universities, turned out to be excellent for AGH-UST.

In the first of the ratings, by students' votes, we were ranked second in Poland, but in the category of technical universities, AGH-UST remained unbeatable by any other university. These results give the AGH University of Science and Technology many reasons for satisfaction. It would be difficult to find a more reliable indicator marking a good school of higher education than the feelings of students towards their own university.
