AGH UST in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Ranking


We already know the results of the latest edition of the prestigious (THE) Times Higher Education World University Ranking. The AGH University of Science and Technology was one the twelve Polish universities included in the ranking and was rated in the range of 601-800.

The Jagiellonian University and the Warsaw University of Technology were placed in the same range. The highest position was awarded to the University of Warsaw (5001-600). Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Gdansk University of Technology, the University of Silesia and the University of Wrocław were listed within the range of 801-1000, whereas the University of Gdańsk, the University of Łódź and the Łódź University of Technology won places in the 1000+ range.

In this year’s edition, over 1100 of the best universities from 77 countries worldwide. Two British universities topped the ranking: Oxford University and Cambridge University (1st and 2nd place, respectively). American universities, California Institute of Technology and Stanford University, took ex aequo the third place.

THE World university Ranking is considered as one of the three most valued and most widely observed international university classifications. The other two are: QS World University Ranking and Academic Ranking of World Universities (the so-called Shanghai Ranking).

Times Higher Education World University Ranking is compiled and published by Times Higher Education magazine, which deals with higher education problems. Universities are judged across their core missions (teaching, research and knowledge transfer) on the basis of five basic indicators: teaching, international diversity, research, citations and industry income. The essential requirement for a university to be included in this performance table is research output over the previous five years in excess of one thousand papers published in journals which are indexed in the international Scopus base.
